COSRX Ultimate Nourishing Rice Overnight Spa Mask review: Is it really worth the Hype?

by - December 03, 2017

"What is your favorite skincare brand?" I have been asked this question multiple times and the answer is simple: COSRX. There are many awesome skincare brands/products out there, but COSRX is the only one that has (almost) never disappointed me (and I'm saying almost because their centella water toner was basically as effective as water on the skin..). And today, I'm back to review a product that I have been in love with ever since it was launched.

What skincare routine step is this?

This is a night pack which means it is used in the end of your night skincare routine. It acts like a film that seals all the goodies in to help your skin get the most of it during your sleep.
But as mentioned in the how to section, it can be used as a cream or a wash off mask as well, depending on what you need.

What skin type might like this?

I think that it suits everybody whatever their skin type is, but those of us with dry and/or dehydrated skin would love it a tad bit more since it really helps with all the flakiness, especially during winter.

Initially, this mask used to come in a jar that wasn't really y fav, it used to leak and as time passed by the mask oxidized and turned yellow, but thankfully last year they decided to make a limited edition packaged in tubes, and when they noticed that people liked it they decided to change it permanently. Yay!

It's a rich, white, thick and kinda slippery cream with no real discernible scent, which is always a plus especially if you have a sensitive skin.

This cream glides easily on my skin leaving it moist and soft without feeling heavy, and acts as a film that seals all the moisture provided by the skincare products I've layered before using this one, without feeling heavy nor too greasy on the skin, which means I wake up with a nice glowing and soft skin the next morning. I can proudly say "I woke up like this" lol.

I liked this mask the first time I used it, but after approximately a week from using it daily (as a , I knew that I won't be trading it for any other night pack anytime soon (and I was right, I've been using it for 2-3 years now, which rarely happen tbh), because it made my dehydrated skin REALLY plump and bouncy, and started retaining the moisture better than it used to before.

Other than using it as a night pack, I like using it as cream as well by applying a thin layer on my skin (a pea sized amount for the whole face), and my skin is kept moisturized for several hours.

PS: Keep in mind that it's supposed to be used as a night pack which means it needs to be washed off later, otherwise you might end up with little bumps under the skin after using it for a long while without washing it off properly (Like for example if you apply it as a night pack, and in the morning you add another layer without washing your face from your previous night skincare, your skin will feel soft and smooth but in the long run it might be suffocated and start getting clogged pores, milia and even break outs)

What's good?

- Really affordable for the amount of good it does to my skin
- Really moisturizing
- Makes my skin smooth and supple, with no greasy or sticky residue
- In the long run, my skin became plump and bouncy
- a little goes a long way

What's not good?
If you asked me a year ago, my answer would be: The packaging! it used to leak, wasn't hygienic and the product turned yellow after being exposed to the air for so long (as showed in the picture below). But after they started selling it in tubes (and increasing the amount of product you get), I can't honestly thing of anything else to point out.

You can buy it:

  • Amazon for $19.98 (Prime)
  • Wishtrend for $16 (use my invitation code 125028803 upon registration or while checking out your and get $5 off your first order, it must be 25$ or more)

Do I recommend it?
Absolutely ♥ I think it's a must have Korean skincare product!
